Avon Ath B 6 - 2 Almondsbury 04/11/07

Match A

Avon 3-1 Almondsbury
This was a very well played game with both sides looking to good passing and movement that keeps football a pleasure to watch, so well done both teams!
In a very tightly contested 1st half both sides tried to break the deadlock but did not really threaten the keepers at either end. In the 2nd half it was Avon who took the lead when former keeper Toby supported Josh on a quick break and beat both defender and keeper with a low drive into the bottom corner, which he then followed up with a 400 yard sprint with his shirt swinging above his head to celebrate. Almondsbury then put Avon under pressure and forced a fine save from Thomas but he could only parry the ball into the path of the Almondsbury forward who managed to beat him at the second attempt. Avon then hit back almost immediately with a speculative shot from Danny L beating the keeper. Again Almondsbury came at us hard but both Danny W and Danny K were solid at the back and never gave Almondsbury’s forwards an inch. Avon then hit the third with Danny L getting his second of the game following some great support play from the Avon midfield, marshalled brilliantly by captain Keiron. This seemed to put an end to the spirited Almondsbury fight back and the game finished 3 - 1 to Avon.
Match B
Avon 3-1 Almondsbury
Again similar to the first game played it was great to watch. Avon assertive from the start, applied plenty of pressure but this was very well dealt with, by an alert Almondsbury keeper, who during the match pulled off several good saves. It took a fine Ilan corner, met and headed superbly into the top corner by Raafea to put Avon in front. This set the tone for the game and the interplay between Raafea and Ilan was superb as they piled on the pressure, to which the Almondsbury defence at times found hard to handle. Avon then increased the lead in the second half with Raafea again finding the back of the net with a fine finish. Avon then threatened to increase their lead with shots coming in from all angles, with both Bradley and Daniel P supporting well from the wings and supplying plenty of crosses. Almondsbury hit back with a good shot which beat Lewis in the Avon goal, this brought the best out of Avon’s Ilan who proceeded to take the game by scruff of the neck and after a fine run, hit a shot from fully 20 yards that flew into the roof of the net.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Match A = Daniel K
Match B = Raafea
