Sunday 30th March 08: Nich. Wands 1-0 Avon Athletic U10A
Another reasonably fine day, but things not so fine on the playing front! Not to take anything away from Nich. Wands, credit to them as they played well throughout and battled for everything, something unfortunately I cannot say about our performance. The first game saw Nich. Wands. Out of the blocks quickly and it was plain to see they meant business, Avon however seemed to stutter between second and third gear and this made the game seem flat, although it was flowing end to end chances were few and far between. However Nich.Wands found the net just before the break when William Brant poked home following some weak defending by a number of Avon players. The second half saw Avon finally coming to life and only good defending and great goalkeeping from Nich. Wands stopped Avon from at least drawing level. (MOTM Ross Budd) The second game got underway, and for the first few minutes it looked as though Avon would turn the deficit round and go on to gain a result. In fairness once again to Nich. Wands. their guys battle for everything and never give up and they frustrated most of the Avon forward movement. Once again Avon seemed to be just going through the motions and the game was to become a bit of a “bore draw” with few chances happening at either end. (MOTM Daniel Baker) From an Avon perspective: you guys have got to show the same grit and determination as these other teams do, if you are to compete at the highest level.
Sunday 6th April 08:Avon Athletic U10A 0-2 Brislington JFC.
Well the one thing that seems to be going ok for the duration of most games is the weather! Apart from the obvious cancellations all teams have suffered this year, we have had very little rain whilst games are on! However following last weeks lack lustre performances, I think everybody (Avon wise) were looking forward to getting back to winning ways, or at least a reasonable performance, but once again we witnessed a fairly flat performance from too many within the camp! In fairness to Brislington, once again their players were charged up and ready to scrap for every ball, and also showed some neat football over the two games. In the first game it was Bris. Who had the chance to draw first blood when finding themselves 2 on 1 which they worked well, only a great save by Ollie kept the scores level. Both sides had half chances from then until half time but none were taken. The second half saw Avon lift their game slightly and should have taken a lead when Stuart went one on one with the keeper following a super 35yd pass from Lewis, but the keeper spread himself well to foil Stuart’s attempt. Bris. also had chances and Ollie (MOTM) once again pulled off some good saves, the highlight being a great tip over the bar, Lewis then went close with a shot from distance which narrowly went wide and from then on it was nip and tuck until the final whistle and a 0-0 score line. So, into the second game, still all to play for and it was Avon who put together the best chances of the first half, with Amari (twice) Daniel B and Ilan with a header, going close, Bris. always strong and keen didn’t trouble Joe too much in the first period until a mistake at the back saw Tyler Wainwright flick the ball over Joe to take the lead. The second half saw much the same but with Avon looking a bit jaded Bris. took more of the game to Avon and were rewarded with a slightly scrappy goal, taken instinctively by Chevez Pring. This finished the game off as a contest and in all honesty the hungrier side won, you have to admire any team where all of the squad give you maximum effort so well done Bris. MOTM Jordan Pocock for a solid defensive performance.
