Friendly Games Roundup – March to May 2008

8th March 2008 vs Rockleaze Rangers
Rockleaze proved to be a very capable and organised side, having been together for a couple of seasons already. In the first game we struggled to get the ball as Rockleaze passed so well, and finished up losing 8-0. Tim made some really good saves so the score could have been worse, but pipping him for MOM was Daniel Wilkes (now with Tony's squad). In the second game, we managed to wrestle the ball away from the opposition a bit more and came close to scoring a few times. However, we lost this game too, 3-0. MOM was Connor Hawkins, having a much improved game and making some good passes.

15th March 2008 vs Southmead
Southmead have proved to be a very useful side to practise against, with their players at a similar development stage to ours. In the first game, our organisation resulted in good football. Francis and Ben scored (Ben also now with Tony's squad) and 2 OGs made up a 4-0 win. MOM went to Francis whose excellent wide play caused many problems for Southmead defence. The second game saw some very cold and wet players take the pitch and although there was some good football played, again we just couldn't get the goals that the performance deserved. Towards the end, the cold and wet took its toll and 2 goals were conceded, making the result 2-0. MOM was Corey Stevens, having made some very good tackles in defence.

5th April 2008 vs Southmead
Southmead hosted us again and gave us 2 very even games. In the first game, fine performances from all the team led to a 3-0 win – Owen scoring 2 and Francis adding the third. Man of the Match was Owen for his much improved forward play, linking well with the midfielders. Southmead troubled our back 3 of Tim, Kira and Alex on a few occasions, bringing some good saves from Tim and some good tackles from our defenders. Luke came on and did well in the first game, and was also part of the second game, which produced some outstanding performances, notably from Max who scored a hat trick of well taken goals, our midfield trio of Connor, George and Kieran (who managed to grab a couple of goals) and our defenders Billy and Matt. Tim made some good saves again but Southmead started to show their strength towards the end of the game, grabbing 4 goals. Max managed to get his 3rd and the winner late in the game to seal a 5-4 win. Special mention was given to Max for his goals but Man of the Match went to Billy, in only his 2nd full game, for taking on all that we've been trying to teach about defending.

20th April 2008 vs A Squad
We had arranged this game as a bit of a test as the A squad have been training for 2 full seasons, with around 50+ games under their belt. In the first game, with the scores at 0-0 until about 15 minutes until the end, our players played really well, tried their best, put all their effort in, passed and defended really well, even going close with some shots. Tim made some brilliant saves during that time, but as we started to tire, both mentally and physically, the A squad's experience and endurance showed through, with them netting a few goals towards the end of the game. In the second game, with some of our players only having been with us a few weeks it was a big challenge for them against the A squad, who have 2 pretty even sides. A few heads went down as goals were conceded, but after a bit of a confidence boosting chat half way though the second half, the players picked themselves up and dug in until the end – much credit is due to them for doing this. MOMs were difficult to pick but Tim deserved

Keep praising and encouraging your kids, they're doing really well
